MENOPAUSE & PERIMENOPAUSE MANAGEMENT

EMPOWERING WOMEN THROUGH MENOPAUSE: YOUR JOURNEY, OUR EXPERTISE

ABOUT US

Personalized Menopause & Perimenopause Care

As a woman and a doctor, I understand that the menopausal transition is not just a medical event – it’s a profound life change that deserves compassion, understanding, and care.

Unfortunately, the current healthcare system in Canada often falls short in providing adequate support for women during this crucial phase of life. Most doctors receive shockingly little training in menopause care – often just a few hours in their entire medical education. This lack of specialized knowledge leads to a frustrating experience for many women seeking help.

Many women have encountered healthcare experiences that left them feeling somewhat unheard or unsupported. You may have had an appointment where your concerns were not fully addressed, or where treatment options, such as hormone therapy, weren’t thoroughly explored. Perhaps you’ve been told that your symptoms are “just a normal part of aging” or advised to “wait it out,” without receiving the comprehensive care you were hoping for.

At The Menopause Clinic, we’re committed to changing this narrative. Whether you’re in the early stages of perimenopause or well into your menopause journey, I want you to know that you’re not alone. We’re here to provide the expert, compassionate care you deserve, guiding you through every step of this transition with evidence-based treatments and personalized support.

THE REALITY OF PERIMENOPAUSE AND MENOPAUSE IN CANADA

Navigating the Hormonal Symphony

Let’s talk about what’s really happening in your body. Perimenopause, which often sneaks up on us in our 40s, is like the opening act of a grand performance. Your hormones begin their elaborate dance, sometimes graceful, sometimes chaotic. You might notice your periods becoming unpredictable, or experience those infamous hot flashes. This phase can last anywhere from 2 to 10 years – yes, we’re all unique!

Then comes menopause itself – the moment when we haven’t had a period for 12 consecutive months. It’s a milestone that most of us reach around 51, give or take a few years. But remember, there’s no “right” age for menopause. Your body has its own timeline, and that’s perfectly okay.

Each year, a new wave of Canadian women embarks on this perimenopausal and menopausal journey. However, many find themselves navigating these changes without a map or guide.

Countless women are unaware they’re in perimenopause, leading to confusion about their changing bodies andemotions. Even more concerning, hundreds of thousands face significant, untreated perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms due to a lack of specialized care.

At The Menopause Clinic, we believe that every woman deserves personalized, expert care throughout the entire menopausal transition. Our mission is threefold: to provide comprehensive expertise, personalized care, and early intervention.

Our team is specially trained in managing both perimenopausal and menopausal health, ensuring you have the support you need at every stage. We recognize that each woman’s experience of this transition is unique, which is why we tailor our approach to your individual needs. We also emphasize the importance of addressing symptoms from the perimenopause stage onwards, setting the foundation for a smoother transition and better long-term health.

According to the Mayo Clinic 75% of OB-GYN residents said they don’t feel ready to take care of menopausal patients, a stat that rose to 90% in practice. And they receive zero perimenopause training.

DYMISTIFYING MENOPAUSE

Understanding Your
Unique Journey

The menopausal transition is not a one-size-fits-all experience. Symptoms can begin in perimenopause and continue through menopause, manifesting differently for each woman.

You might experience:

  • Hot flashes and night sweats
  • Mood changes
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Changes in libido
  • Weight fluctuations
  • Bone density loss

All of these symptoms can significantly impact your quality of life, influencing everything from your job performance to your personal relationships and overall well-being. The intensity and combination of these symptoms can also vary widely among women. That’s why our approach is tailored to your unique needs.

YOUR JOURNEY. OUR EXPERTISE.

Expert Menopause Support Through Comprehensive Care Steps

The Menopause Clinic delivers personalized care through every step of your journey. We combine clinical expertise with compassionate support, focusing on your immediate needs while prioritizing your long-term health and wellbeing.

Step One: Your Family Physician Referral

Step one of menopause and perimenopause management at The Menopause Clinic begins with a referral from your family physician. This referral may provide Alberta Health Services coverage, enables comprehensive review of your medical history, and allows coordinated care with your primary provider. Some specialized treatments may not be covered. The team promptly reviews referrals and schedules your first appointment.

Step Two: Preparing Your Health Information

Step two involves completing a 30-minute intake questionnaire before your appointment to create a personalized plan. Gather your complete medical history including surgeries, family health history (especially women’s health concerns), current medications and supplements, menstrual history with last period date and cycle changes, and a symptom journal noting frequency, severity, and impact. This helps develop understanding of your health needs.

Step Three: Your Assessment and Treatment Plan

Step three involves two appointments. First, a 15-minute nursing assessment reviewing your questionnaire, discussing symptoms, and measuring vital signs. Second, a 30-minute physician consultation where our menopause specialist conducts comprehensive health review, performs physical examination when appropriate, discusses diagnosis and treatment options, develops your personalized care plan, and addresses questions and concerns.

YOUR JOURNEY WITH US

Ongoing Care & Adjustments

This is just the beginning of our journey together. We’ll be with you every step of the way, adjusting your treatment as needed and celebrating your progress.

Your journey with us begins with a follow-up appointment 6-8 weeks after starting treatment, allowing us to assess your initial response and make any necessary adjustments. We’ll meet again at the 3-month mark, where we often observe significant improvements and can further refine your treatment plan.

Ongoing care after this is scheduled according to your individual needs and response to treatment. We’ll monitor your continued progress, make any necessary adjustments, and address new developments as they arise, ensuring your treatment plan evolves with you.

Follow up appointments at:

  • 6-8 WEEKS
  • 3 MONTHS
  • Personalized ongoing care plan.

A Note on Coverage:

If you’re referred to us by your family doctor, your visits to The Menopause Clinic are covered by Alberta Health Services (AHS). This means you can access our specialized care without the worry of additional costs. If you’re interested in this option, speak with your family doctor about a referral to our clinic.
